ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an introduction to the whole Section on Tribal Hermeneutics. To that end, the chapter considers the emic and etic meanings of the concept of ‘tribe’ and offers a survey of tribal biblical exegesis to date, and which concerns and hermeneutical principles have been of most importance to tribal readers and scholars.
