ABSTRACT

This chapter represents an attempt to read the socio-economic concerns of Amos as expressed in Amos 6:1-7 in the light of the Mizo social ethos and economic values. The desired conclusion is that this perspective can further illuminate some important aspects of the values and ethos of the prophet concerning the relationship between the rich and the poor in the 8th century BCE. It is generally recognized that the issue of wealth and poverty was of fundamental concern to Amos. However, an adequate explanation has never been given of the socio-economic values of the prophet as reflected in his oracles. Therefore, this paper aims at throwing light on the values and principles of Amos in his critique of the rich who indulge themselves in luxury.
