ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a lesson on Linear Regression that presents this complex statistical topic in a way that is more digestible for all students, even those who might “fear” numbers. The lesson is built upon two core beliefs for teaching any complex statistical technique: (1) students learn better when they are applying the concept that they are trying to learn, as they are learning it, and (2) team-based learning is best for developing students’ ability to solve complex problems. Additionally, this lesson is designed to try to avoid lecturing when discussing linear regression. Finally, the focus is on the questions of interest to the students (variables chosen by the students) rather than just the technical aspects of linear regression.
