ABSTRACT

The discussion section is a critical component to any chapter or article because it provides connections across the research literature and study presented. The key components for any discussion section of qualitative findings include a description of what was found in relation to prior studies, significance of findings, implications, and study limitations. Other components such as interpretation, future studies, expanding themes, and a conclusion may be relevant depending upon the discipline, field, or journal. This lesson explains the key components, helps students learn to identify these, and offers an application for students to practice writing a discussion section.
