ABSTRACT

This case study explores the reflections of a group of coaches in supervision as they worked as external coaches in a pro-bono project. A coaching organisation partnered with an NGO to provide pro-bono coaching to support their leaders. The NGO and a coaching organisation agreed to provide coaching to these leaders to improve their management skills, to support them more effectively coordinate the projects under their responsibility. The coaching organisation invited credentialed coaches to offer eight sessions of pro-bono coaching to each client. After all coaches have checked in for their second supervision session, the supervisor invites them to share a coaching case or questions on their mind for which they would like the group's support to reflect on. The coaches were left feeling that the NGO leadership had interpreted the coaching offer as a mandatory requirement.
