ABSTRACT

This chapter explains case study that is about a coaching engagement for the CEO of an international financial institution who wanted to burnish her leadership skills and use her power as a glass-ceiling-breaking woman to succeed, as well as help other women rise and thrive in her traditionally male-dominated industry. During the coaching engagement, many forces emerged in the organization to undermine the coaching client's effectiveness and diminish her leadership role, leading to the assignment of a mandatory coach from within the organization. The breaking of confidentiality has implications for the organisation (the paying client) and the coach–coaching client relationship as collusion is disrupted.
