ABSTRACT

This final chapter summarizes the arguments of the book. We go back to the three fundamental points of departure for our approach: a field of governance, embeddedness and reciprocity. As a result, we conclude that (1) corporations are embedded in fields of governance; (2) regulators, market actors and scrutinizers play significant roles in such fields; (3) these actors influence corporations and each other in a reciprocal way; and (4) corporations create boundary-spanning units as well as interact with intermediaries in the field of governance. Finally, the chapter presents implications beyond the corporation as well as for organization theory, for management education and for management. At the very end, we offer some suggestions for future research.
