ABSTRACT

Operating speed profile analysis is the most used methods in evaluating the consistency of the roadway design where it estimates the operating speed of the vehicle. In the case of roadways for Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, the horizontal curve was classified as a sub-standard curve and a speed limit of 25 kilometres per hour (km/h) has been enforced along the curve to ensure traffic safety both to vehicle drivers and pedestrians. The 25 km/h posted speed limit was used based on the location of the case study area is within the university. The purpose of this study firstly to evaluate the relationship of 85th percentile operating speed in conjunction with horizontal and vertical alignments at three (3) points which are at the beginning, mid and end of curve. Secondly, to study relationship between turning radius of selected vehicles and the lane width along the curve.
