ABSTRACT

During the last ten decades, many Asian nations around the world have witnessed rapid economic development and social change. The growth of waste generation particularly construction and demolition wastes have attracted considerable attention. The most common causes of waste in construction projects are materials. In Malaysia, the consistent development of the industry offers a strong possibility of greater use of sustainable waste practices, leading towards the nation goals for sustainable development. It is therefore, obvious that the monetary losses from construction material waste can create a great danger to the economic growth and development of a country. Primary and secondary data were gathered using structured questionnaires and interviews. The result indicates that all the primary stakeholders concluded that the leading important factors causing construction waste in Malaysia construction industry are: Site operation; on-site management and planning; materials storage and handling; design and documentation; transportation; and procurement.
