ABSTRACT

Roller compacted concrete (RCC) when used in pavement is subjected to dynamic fatigue load from moving vehicles which is the major problem. In order to solve fatigue and flexural strength related problems in RCC, incorporating crumb rubber (CR) will improve the ductility, bending deformation and reduces the brittle nature of RCC due to deformation and elastic properties of rubber, but CR will affects the mechanical, durability properties of concrete negatively, this leads to the use of Nano Silica (NS) in RCC to remedy the negative effect of CR by improving the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between CR and cement paste, densifying the concrete matrix due to NS filler ability, improving strength due to NS high pozzolanic reactivity. Thus, producing a new material for use as RCC pavement of desirable strength, high fatigue performance, higher energy absorption, with lower risk of distress, which is more economical and having a longer service life.
