ABSTRACT
Within a changing political, social and cultural environment, this chapter examines the challenges women in Egypt have met and how they have managed to move through the government bureaucracy and to progress in the political arena as members of political parties, as parliamentarians and in non-profit organizations. The chapter provides several stories of women who have been successful in meeting challenges across a wide range of domains in the public sphere by taking initiative to change the status quo.
