ABSTRACT
The political, social and economic status of women in China has significantly improved in the past few decades as has their participation and leadership in public service. This chapter shows that despite this progress and the fact that women’s rights have been deeply entrenched in the country’s constitution and statutes since 1949 when the Communist Party of China (CPC) assumed control of the country, full gender equality in the nation’s political domain has yet to be achieved.
