ABSTRACT
Finfish are globally the most numerous farmed animals. They are a major source of affordable protein, especially in developing countries. Finfish are sentient and, therefore, deserve to have equivalent attention paid to their welfare as terrestrial farmed species. This chapter provides an introduction to animal welfare issues in aquaculture, highlighting the most consistently reported issues that affect fish welfare, and offering some practical suggestions to companies on how they should manage finfish health and welfare.
