ABSTRACT

An effective manager gets the work done and produces the desired results. It is interesting to note that effective managers differ widely in their appearance, personality, temperament, interests, knowledge, and skills. An effective manager opens his relationship with a subordinate with respect, trust, and confidence. The first concern of an effective manager is that the staff members know what is expected of them; what exactly is to be done. And then he ensures that the staff is capable of doing it and has the required means. Keeping the staff motivated is a big challenge in organizations. An effective manager makes it a point to provide periodic feedback to every staff member who works for him. Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool in shaping human behavior and performance. Recognition and appreciation of high performers is a basic requirement that must be practiced to maintain staff motivation.
