ABSTRACT

So far we have discussed the nature of a good lesson in terms of its mathematical content and the nature of the understanding for which we should be striving. We have discussed the teacher behaviours associated with good classroom management and the establishment of authority. We then examined the issues which arise in lesson planning and led you through the process of planning a lesson. We now intend to look more closely at some of the common teaching strategies which are available to you and to focus on those which have been found to be most effective in particular situations. In particular we focus on teaching behaviours and intentions in three forms of classroom organization: whole class, group, and individual.
