ABSTRACT

Review of the literature indicates that the scientific management approach is the only "movement" that has received any significant attention. As pointed out earlier, this approach, while not including all of management, has been studied both as to content and as to development. Even this movement was not recognized as something distinct and identifiable until it was well established. The Interstate Commerce Commission hear- ings of 1910 were the occasion for coining the term " scientific management". These hearings directly and indirectly brought about a great deal of interest and study of what scientific management was and what it could do.
