ABSTRACT

In Chapter 16, David S. Hargrove and Elizabeth Grady describe how family emotional process influences the experience of death in the system. Both the dying person and the surviving family are subject to the impact of chronic anxiety and how it is experienced by family members, medical staff seeking to care for the dying person, and collateral personnel who may be involved in the dying process. Expressions of anxiety follow the structure exemplified in the concepts contained in Bowen family systems theory.
