ABSTRACT

The special concerns and difficulties of women with fragile X syndrome fall within a range of professional interests, including clinicians, gynaecologists and obstetricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, geneticists and counsellors. They are also important for teachers, because the behaviour and success of the adult individual is the prime outcome of education. The genetics of fragile X syndrome which give rise to these concerns and difficulties have been discussed in earlier chapters, but it is important for professionals to understand the emotional and social problems often experienced by women with fragile X.
