This chapter establishes a general understanding of emotions and affects and explains how certain emotions, such as happiness, pleasure, enjoyment and so on. It discusses some differences in interpretation of terms between concepts to allow for a better comparison and discussion of these concepts. The chapter plays a role in deciding whether one's life is seen as a good and beautiful one or not. It presents understanding of the concept of emotions, which draws strongly on psychological considerations, a classification of emotions in relation to time has been given and definitions of relevant emotions have been offered. The field of feelings, emotions and affects is a widely researched area with various definitions, depending on research discipline and focus. Differences in definition exist not only between the humanities, the social and the behavioural sciences, but also within these fields.
