ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses at the structure, roles and strategies of employers' associations in Hong Kong based on the findings of fieldwork, documents and information from various websites. It analyses the development trend of these associations and assess their impact upon the employment and broader system in Hong Kong. The chapter discusses the future challenges for Hong Kong employers' associations in rapid changing environments in Hong Kong, on the Chinese Mainland and throughout the world, as well as their possible responses to these changes in their roles and strategies. The most important role of Hong Kong employers' organizations is to ensure that member companies run their businesses in a favourable environment and are able to further develop their businesses. Another function of many employers' associations is to work closely with professional HR/personnel bodies and Labour Department to sponsor rewards for good people management practices so that member employers can learn useful principles in developing appropriate HRM practices in their firms.
