ABSTRACT

The acute nursing module team at Edinburgh Napier University; patients, relatives and staff at NHS Lothian who participated in the LCCP; undergraduate nursing students at Edinburgh Napier University who participated in learning activities; the Leadership in Compassionate Care Programme (LCCP) team; and Senior Charge Nurse Jacqui Brodie, NHS Lothian. In response to concerns about the personalisation and humanity of caring and the experience of compassion within healthcare, the Leadership in Compassionate Care Programme was developed as a joint programme of research between Edinburgh Napier University and National Health Service (NHS) Lothian, this programme began in 2007 and research activities continue. The themes that emerged from the Leadership in Compassionate Care Programme informed the changes that people made such as including elements of compassionate care within the assessment criteria so that students were awarded additional marks when they demonstrated compassionate practice. The students enjoyed listening to the podcasts and discussing the stories.
