ABSTRACT
The effective transition to Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled systems requires robust leadership. Equally important is that they also possess the experiential knowledge and the clinical skills to guide health organizations in making sound strategic choices in deploying AI in ways which impact the longer term patterns of service delivery. Health organizations that are serious about transforming through AI must harness the energy and wisdom of their clinicians. Achieving a high level of engagement with clinicians in planning and deploying AI starts with understanding their views and attitudes about AI. From a planning perspective, the growing capabilities and use of AI in healthcare will continually improve data-gathering techniques. AI will displace or enhance certain types of repetitive work in specialties such as radiology and anatomical pathology. Organizations that succeed in the world of Intelligent Health Systems will be those that actively use AI to support physicians and nurses in living up to their aspirations as caregivers.
