ABSTRACT

This chapter ties together the theoretical and methodological streams—the movement from double-loop to triple-loop learning in action research, from systems thinking to human-centric design, from participation to presencing, and from self-awareness to ensemble awareness. The essence is simple: how to observe and act from beyond the confines of an imagined separate self to an expanded sense of the whole. The community engagement practitioner can be the catalyst of ensemble awareness for collective change. These practitioners become the societal change agents so needed now: the ones whose efforts can knit together a social fabric torn asunder. They are the harbingers and catalysts of profound social change.
