ABSTRACT

The research discussed in Chapter 3 builds upon insights from human capital theory, cognition and heuristics theory and the RBV of the firm. The three themes in this chapter highlight differences (and similarities) between habitual (i.e., serial and portfolio) entrepreneurs with PBOE and novice entrepreneurs with no PBOE. Entrepreneur resource profiles are compared with regard to human capital as well cognition, heuristics and biases. We draw on two quantitative descriptive studies conducted in Scotland that focused upon entrepreneur human capital resources, cognition, heuristics and biases as well as a quantitative theory-testing study conducted in Great Britain that focused on the comparative optimism bias.
