ABSTRACT

Carcinoma of the nose and paranasal sinuses has always been a serious clinical problem. Jarvi from Finland in 1945, drew attention to the histological appearance of nasal adenocarcinoma. The fact that nasal adenocarcinomas closely simulate colonic adenocarcinomas in histopathology has later been verified by another research group. In the study by Collan et al. the histological types of 470 cases of carcinoma of the nose, as they were reported to the Finnish Cancer Registry during fifteen years, were analyzed. The study clearly showed the predominance of epidermoid carcinomas in this area. There is only one study analyzing the etiological associations of carcinoma of the nose and paranasal sinuses in Finland. The study tried to clarify the point whether wood dust exposure could be related to nasal adenocarcinoma in Finland. Only one joiner was found among the cases and this patient had nasal adenocarcinoma.
