ABSTRACT

In systemic thinking, identity is seen primarily as the product of interpersonal interaction. Identity is linked to the relations that involve the individual in particular situations, periods, or contexts. Consultation offers many challenges to work with one's own identity in relation to one's role as consultant. Management information systems, e-mail, and so forth place a growing demand on the individual to stay, up-to-date on general aspects of the company's situation and development. The large amounts of information that each employee has to take in and process on a daily basis require constant learning and the development of new skills on the job. New information is just as likely to cause confusion and a sense of insecurity, anxiety, anger arid frustration. Information technology has enabled people to access and process large amounts of knowledge and information—and, increasingly, make them accessible to lay persons.
