ABSTRACT

This chapter provide a detailed biopsychosocial framework to explore the embodied experiences of culture, and highlights how both emotions and feelings help contribute to identity development. It offers a framework for thinking about the relationship between epistemology and Mind, Brain, and Education (MBE). The chapter also introduces the Bayesian Brain Paradigm, relates it to Bayesian epistemology and MBE, and argues that the paradigm is a very successful example of what has been called 'Neurophenomenology' the discipline concerned with relating first-person experience with underlying brain processes. It presents a compelling argument for the important role synthesizers can play in MBE. Those who are drawn to synthesizing may enjoy and excel at drawing from multiple frameworks and utilizing new combinations of methodological tools in order to answer previously intractable questions about complex human phenomenon. The described work integrates a variety of methodological approaches in novel ways to inform the understanding of identity development issues.
