ABSTRACT

Introduction In the preceding chapter we looked at the ethics of principlism, discussing autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice in some detail, applying them to healthcare. We also touched upon the wider ethical theories of teleological and deontological ethical principles. The present chapter focuses more deeply on the wider conceptual ethical theories of normative ethics, concentrating on the main subdivisions of teleological, deontological and feminine moral theories and the caring ethic. The chapter asks if these theories can help ethical decision making in nursing and the wider healthcare.
