ABSTRACT

The Appeal Ethnography simply means the description of groups. At first sight, it might seem that anyone can do ethnography but doing it well requires familiarity with a theoretical field, a set of research skills and perhaps, above all, to use Eisner’s (1991) term, an “enlightened eye.” Ethnographic approaches appeal to those who are confident that they have the time to stay in a research setting (the field) for at least a couple of weeks (it might be where they work anyway) for sustained observation and informal interviewing.
