This chapter explores the extent to which the European Union (EU) and China have cooperated on such reform in the context of the 'group of twenty' (G20) leader summits since the onset of the 2008 crisis. By exploring their evolving rhetoric on the reform of global economic governance and their positions in the build-up to and during the summits, it contemplates the degree of cooperation achieved to date and prospects for the future. The chapter outlines the G20's centrality to the governance and reform of the global economy since the 2008 global financial crisis, highlighting the prominence of the EU and China in consolidating this institutional setting. It examines how the EU and China have built a narrative of bilateral cooperation within the G20 as essential to the success of reform efforts generally and as a manifestation of their strategic partnership.
