ABSTRACT

The European union (EU) began life in the aftermath of the second war of the twentieth century to lay waste to Europe and most other parts of the world. The seed of Euro-scepticism had been sown and was destined to grow vigorously during the next two decades. The two ambitious politicians went on to lead the Brexit cause proving, of course, very persuasive. Cameron received a body blow in February when his friends Michael Gove and Boris Johnson both decided to join Leave. May and Cameron once promised to reduce net immigration figures to the 'tens of thousands' instead of an annual figure of around 200,000—300,000. The Great Repeal Bill aims to repeal the 1972 European Communities Act which took people into what became the EU and gave EU law precedence over UK law. A number of Trotskyite bodies sprang up during and after Trotsky's lifetime, calling for worldwide revolution.
