ABSTRACT

Rice (Oryza sativa) is one of the most staple food grains with enormous nutritive value. Though, the parts of rice also contain different bioactive molecules including vitamin, minerals and antioxidants. The present work aimed to investigate hypolipidemic and antioxidant potential of ketoki joha, an aromatic rice of Assam, India. Activity of the water extract of rice seed with bran were evaluated on high fat diet & high sugar induced hyperlipidemia model using rats. Treatment with water extract of ketoki joha (200 mg and 400 mg/kg, oral) for 30 days significantly ameliorated the lipid profile compare to disease control. Apart for lipid profile the effect, reduce hepatic enzyme and lactate dehydrogenase level in serum compare to disease control. Extract increase serum ApoA1 and reduce ApoB, ApoB/ApoA1 ratio. Extract treatment significantly reduced atherogenic coefficient and cardiac risk ratio index and positively ameliorated endogenous antioxidant level. Current work, found that ketoki joha significantly reduced hyperlipidemia and exerted in vivo antioxidant activity
