ABSTRACT

If experience is the food of learning, then evaluation is the digestive process. To benefit from experience, it is essential to make something of it. Any open system-whether an animal, a person or an organization-must learn from its experience of its environment in order to survive. Evaluation, therefore, is one of the essentials of living. It involves taking in feedback from the environment, reflecting on it, considering its value, and making judgements about its implications for future choices. The capacity to adapt depends on a willingness and ability to undertake this process, implicitly or explicitly.
