ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Using the best current evidence to inform and improve practice in health and social care is seen as a cornerstone of being a competent practitioner in the helping professions. The ability to keep up with and utilise relevant up-to-date empirical knowledge is now an expectation in multi-professional contexts. This chapter discusses the skills, knowledge and understanding required to do so in health and social care practice, using a variety of settings as examples.
