ABSTRACT

This is my first attempt to construct a dynamical approach to cognition. First, I review some basic notions from dynamical systems theory, important for seeking a unifying language. Then, for illustrative purposes, I follow with some comments on a nonlinear extension of Miller, Dollard, and Lewin’s social conflict theory. Finally, 1 comment on the responsibility and capacity of the dynamical systems approach to contribute to the evolution of a balance between unity and diversity in psychology, to the exercise of free choice, and to the humanist missions of science, psychology, and society.
