ABSTRACT

Along the “S7” Expressway, the execution of the Mały Luboń tunnel is ongoing. It is a large diameter tunnel, consisting in two tubes with a length of 2km, which approaches the Carpathians. The northern part of the tunnel develops through the Magura flysch unit, while the southern one through the Hieroglyphic flysch, which is highly tectonized and characterized by folds/overthrusts. During the excavation of the southern entrance, a landslide has been detected inducing the designer to produce a new technical solution, to be implemented during the ongoing construction activities, aimed to increase the slopes stability and to review the tunnel face consolidations, according to the A.DE.CO.-R.S. method. All the geological information and monitoring data are introduced, analyzed and implemented to lead to the solution adopted to complete the entrance and to excavate a large diameter tunnel in a sliding geological unit, for the first time through the western Carpathians.
