ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the perception and treatment of homeless people in developing countries as ‘others’ and somehow isolated or excluded from mainstream society. It begins by discussing homelessness in relation to concepts of social exclusion and exclusion from welfare entitlements, then continues by focusing on the perceptions and persecution of homeless people. Some of this chapter draws on Speak and Tipple (2006).
