ABSTRACT

Parents and practitioners frequently want to exploit the potential of the outdoors and yet our own prejudices, fears, concerns or lack of specialist skills may hinder us achieving the best learning experiences for our children. We have to accept that not all adults enjoy the outdoors and this may be linked to personal childhood experiences or developed in recent years as the need for comfort and dry clothing

takes priority over battling wet and windy weather. We are asking for you to try to look again through a child’s eyes as to the opportunities you might offer them by giving them possible links with the outdoors; dress yourselves and the children appropriately.
