ABSTRACT

Most of engineers usually designed groundsill to prevent longitudinal scour without stability analysis in decades, because of the designed top elevation of groundsill being the same as that of creek bed. Recently, some top elevations of groundsill without stability analysis are higher than creek bed. This study set up eight scenarios to explore the safety design of groundsill by investigating the analyses of overturning and sliding with various water depth, deposition condition at upstream and downstream reaches. The principle results show that the maximum height of the groundsills, without stability analysis, should be less than 0.99 meters with the friction coefficient of 0.3. This result implies that stability analysis is frequently needed in case of referring the design manual in Taiwan.
