ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the author believes that the United Nations is a living organization, and that a living organization has to change and grow in order to thrive. The efforts to bring Namibia to independence were, after a long and painstaking effort, successful. The UN’s peacekeeping efforts are moving ahead apace. We are seeing how they are working in the Persian Gulf, and we are all hopeful. The efforts to bring Namibia to independence were, after a long and painstaking effort, successful. The UN’s work in Afghanistan and in Central America has born fruit. And the work which continues every day in humanitarian areas – for child health, for family planning, for refugee work, for clean water and development of all kinds – all of that continues apace.
