ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The increasing utilisation of the Internet by extremists is of concern to me and to other researchers. Our concern is fuelled by the knowledge that the Internet is being used by neo-Nazis to spread race hate material. Such extremists seek to exploit the Internet to avoid legal sanctions which might make racist propaganda (in the form of publications, video and audio cassettes) illegal in most countries. The Internet is accessed by a youthful and impressionable audience, whose obvious technology and communications skills mark them as potential leaders of the next generation, and it is an area with enormous growth potential.
