ABSTRACT
Under cyclic loadings, pre-existing cracks inside a material may become bigger and cause catastrophic failure of the structure. Structural failure under cyclic loading is also known as fatigue failure. In this chapter crack propagation behavior under cyclic loading or fatigue is studied. Since under fatigue a crack can propagate at a stress level well below the critical stress value, this crack growth phenomenon is also known as subcritical crack growth.
