ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5, we learned a great deal about how social venture opportunities come into being. In Chapter 6, we discussed the concept of business model. Now, in this chapter, we focus on the evaluation of social venture opportunities. Once opportunities have been discovered or created, they must be assessed to determine whether they could be translated into viable social ventures. The chapter is organized into four main sections. The first section discusses the nature of feasibility analysis. The second describes the tools used to evaluate business opportunities. The third focuses specifically on tools developed to evaluate social venture opportunities. The fourth highlights the importance of feasibility analysis for social ventures. This chapter intends to be hands-on. In addition to learning what a feasibility analysis is, students will be provided with the tools to conduct one.
