One of the integral features of a caring and task-involving climate in sport is creating a spirit of mutual kindness and respect within the team. While this may seem like an easy task (i.e., people just need to be respectful and kind), creating this type of atmosphere requires intentionality. Coaches need to be purposeful in developing trusting relationships with team members and letting them know they are valued and appreciated. This happens by establishing a community where values such as kindness, respect, generosity, and care are front and center and are visibly acted upon within the team by both the coach and athletes. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to provide a variety of practical suggestions to consider implementing in practice related to making connections with athletes, communicating the value of mutual kindness and respect, and acting with care and support toward athletes.
