ABSTRACT

The term ‘environment’ has a wide range of definitions. It generally comprises three dimensions: ecological (e.g. biosystems), economic (e.g. resource use) and social (e.g. health, and quality of life). It is often related to the term ‘sustainability’. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, according to the Brundtland Report to the United Nations.
