ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a model consisting of four stages is presented: investigator-to-technology systems, investigator-to-investigator systems, investigator-to-information systems and investigator-to-application systems respectively. It demonstrates the potential of knowledge management systems to enable new organizational forms as well as interorganizational relationships and partnerships useful in policing. The knowledge management technology stage model is a multistage model proposed for organizational evolution over time. Stages of knowledge management technology are a relative concept concerned with ICT ability to process information for knowledge work. When applied to law enforcement in this chapter, the stages are labelled investigator-to-technology, investigator-to-investigator, investigator-to-information, and investigator-to-application as illustrated in. Investigator-to-Information Stage: Information from knowledge workers is stored and made available to everyone in the firm and to designated external partners. The important contribution of this chapter is the introduction of the stage hypothesis to knowledge management technology in policing the business organization.
