ABSTRACT
Chapter 9 is the book’s concluding chapter. It itemises the pro-community behaviours and psychological responses from the authors’ analytical framework on socially sustainable behaviours found in both the case studies in Chapter 7, and also in the authors’ analytical framework on community resilience and resilience case studies in Chapter 8. It then unveils three new behavioural and psychological dimensions also shared between the social sustainability and resilience cases. The full set of behaviours and psychological responses indicative of communities which are both socially sustainable and climate resilient are laid out for urban development stakeholders. The authors argue that these are what plans, designs and public participation must influence.
The authors offer their conclusion about the implications of the socially aware planning process described, and of this whole study, for urban development in the age of global warming and climate change. Finally, they offer concluding key messages to the book’s academic and professional audiences.
