ABSTRACT

The usefulness of the discussed models is considered in simulating mobile reception with Digital Video Broadcasting–Handheld (DVB-H). In this case, the packet channel models describe the behavior of transport stream packets entering the DVB-H link layer or Internet protocol packets in the application layer. This chapter presents practical and efficient error models for packet channels. It provides an approach to parameterizing the models and implemented in simulating mobile DVB-H reception in an urban area. It describes the transport stream packet error traces required in simulating the DVB-H link layer performance, and determine the required laboratory measurement lengths to obtain sufficient information on the statistics of the channel. Source data was input into a digital video broadcasting–terrestrial/handheld modulator operating with various combinations of system parameters. A DVB-H receiver setup and a Global Positioning System receiver were used to record synchronized reception information.
