ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduced five managerial tasks, referred to in Table 1.2 as supply chain knowledge areas, which will change with the emergence of SCM. The five tasks, also the subject of the Handbook of Supply Chain Management, have always been important components of the managerial workload. However, the drivers of supply chain change, described in Chapter 3, require new ways of performing these traditional tasks. Table 4.1 lists the five tasks, along with the project management themes associated with each. Chapters 12 through 15 incorporate tools and concepts that constitute supply chain knowledge areas into project management execution tasks.
