ABSTRACT

Few things have moved beyond the bounds of Latinx culture like the flavors and aromas of its tradition of food. But, like with many things that are appropriated from Latinx heritage, the foods and culinary practices of Latinxs have at times fallen the route of the bland stereotype. This chapter provides an overview of the foods that are influenced and shaped by Latinx culture, and it will close with the cost of food production and sustainability on the Latinx body. The rise of Latinx food culture has led to both a productive and problematic consumerism in the United States. Moving from the fine-dining chef to the fast food industry, restaurants have attempted to capitalize on bastardized versions of authentic Mexican food. Taco Bell is a worldwide brand, and it continues to produce its brand of Mexican food to people all over the world. The antithesis of the fast-food Mexican restaurants is the mobile taco trucks and taco wagons.
